2010 Fire Calls
Brush Fire alarm

1-4-2010 @ 17:44 Susquehanna Fire Department is dispatched to State
Street Oakland Borough for a brush fire.  Chief units on scene report that the
foundation of a house currently being torn down is on fire as well as the debris
around the structure.  Chief 12 requests Susquehanna Engine 2 to respond -
following it for safety was Susquehanna A-2.  Crews worked quickly to knock
down the flames.  All units back into service a little less than one hour later.
TRAFFIC CONTROL
1-8-10 @     Susquehanna Fire Police dispatched to assist PSP in traffic control - Brushville Road, Oakland Twp. for a two car motor vehicle accident with no injuries,
vehicles blocking 1 lane of traffic.  Susquehanna RT 1  responded.


POSSIBLE FIRE
1-6-10 @ 18:01 Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance personnel dispatched to a residence on Jackson Ave, Susquehanna Borough.  Dispatch states that the resident is
reporting a smell of hot wires.  Crews arrive on scene and search the residence, find that it's coming from an overloaded outlet.  Resident was advised of the problem
and everything was taken care of.  No fire or damage to the residence.


REKINDLE
1-5- 10 @ 10:59 Susquehanna Fire is dispatched for a Rekindle of the debris that was burning on State Street in Oakland Borough.  Susquehanna 13 reported on scene
asked county to hold all apparatus and personnel at the station.  Susquehanna 13 addressed the issue and cleared scene within moments.
MVA with Entrapment

1-18-10 @ 12:23 - Susquehanna Fire & Ambulance were dispatched to a single car roll
over on State Route 92, Oakland Twp just south of the borough on the bridge.  Units
arrived on scene to find a female patient trapped in the vehicle.  Crews worked diligently
to remove the patient from the wreckage. Patient was removed in stable condition.   The
patient was taken by Susquehanna Ambulance assisted by  Barnes Kasson ALS to
Wilson Hospital in New York.   Vehicle was removed from the scene by French's Auto.
A Day for Fire Assists

1-21-10 @ 15:09 Susquehanna Fire Department was dispatched to respond an engine to stand by at Great Bend Fire Hall while they operated on a fully involved trailer
fire up in Windsor District 4 on Blatchly Road.  Susquehanna Engine 1 responded light crew.

1-21-10 @ 22: 39 Susquehanna Fire was hit for a full response for a structure in Windsor's fire district - State Route 79.  Engine 1 and 2 quickly responded.  While crews
were still assembling for the other apparatus, Broome County put Susquehanna on stand by for those pieces and moments later canceled pieces on the road.  
Tree on Wires

1-25-10 @ 7:21 - Susquehanna Fire Department dispatched for a tree down on wires - smoking.  Susquehanna 12 was the first on scene reporting that the tree was not
on fire and there wasn't anything really the fire department could do.  He canceled all other Susquehanna units and gave Penelec information to county for the situation
before clearing the scene.
Electrical Fire

1-26-10 @ 11:59 - SFD dispatched to assist Great Bend Hose in a possible structure fire, Tarzan Road.  Great Bend and Hallstead Units first arriving reporting that it
was a fire in the electrical panel.  Susquehanna Units responding were canceled by Great Bend command.
Structure Fire - building a loss
1-27-10 @ 3:10 - Susquehanna Fire and EMS dispatched to a Structure Fire on Pleasant
Ave in Susquehanna Borough.  The building was quickly evacuated by first units arriving
on scene a total of 14 people living in the building.  Susquehanna units started a
defensive attack while waiting for incoming New Milford and Hallstead units.  Command
then requested Thompson for additional manpower.  Great Bend's rescue was also
called to the scene.  Residents of the building were treated for smoke inhalation and
breathing problems but no one was injured in the fire.  The American Red Cross -
Montrose Chapter is aiding two of the families from this fire.  
Landing Zone for Gutherie
1-27-10 @ 22:05 - Susquehanna Fire and EMS dispatched to assist Gutherie Air in a Landing Zone at the helo pad at Susquehanna Schools for incoming Gutherie
Helicopter 25 minute ETA.  
Structure Fire in Lanesboro
1-29-10 @ 15:28 - Susquehanna Fire and EMS dispatched for a residential structure fire on Belmont Street, Lanesboro Borough.  Susquehanna 11 was the first unit
arriving on scene requesting county to hit their box alarm.  Assisting SFD was Great Bend Fire, Hallstead Fire, Thompson Hose, and Great Bend Hallstead Ambulance.  
Fire was quickly knocked down keeping damage contained to the basement and partial first floor.  
Fully Involved Vehicle Fire
1-30-10 @  - Susquehanna Fire was dispatched to a vehicle fire, Prospect Street Oakland
borough.  Upon arrival on scene crews found a fully involved Plymouth Neon parked on the
side of Prospect Street just off of Westfall Ave.  Engine 1's crew worked quickly to extinguish
the fire while crews off of the Rescue Truck secured the scene and provided tool
assistance to the engine crew.  SFD Ambulance 2 & Lanesboro Police were also on scene.
  
Structure Fire?
2-13-10 @ 19:50 - Susquehanna Fire responding to a dispatch for a possible trailer fire on the Brushville Road, Oakland Twp.  Dispatch stated that the fire looks as if it's
been burning for awhile and the house is believed to be a seasonal residence.  Susquehanna 12 was the first to arrive on scene, reporting that it's not a trailer fire but
rubbish.  He requested the engine to respond.  Rubbish fire was extinguished.  

Activated Fire Alarm
2-10-10 @ 18:08 - Susquehanna Fire personnel were dispatched to respond to Small Engine Repair - State Route 171 Oakland Twp for a reported activated fire alarm.  
Personnel got on scene to find they could not gain access to the facility.  The building was checked as well as it could be from the outside and with nothing showing, all
units called available.

1 Car MVA in the Borough
2-9-10 @ 20:10 - Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance dispatched to Franklin Ave, Susquehanna Borough for a 1 car motor vehicle accident.  The vehicle slid into the
guard rails due to poor road conditions.  Patient had minor injuries, was transported to Barnes Kasson Hospital by Susquehanna Ambulance for evaluation.  vehicle
was removed from the scene by French's Auto.  

EMS ASSIST
2-8-10 @ 2:15 - Susquehanna Fire personnel dispatched to assist Susquehanna EMS on a medical emergency Riverside Drive, Oakland Twp.

Assist on head on collision
2-3-10 @ 18:27 - Susquehanna Rescue 1 and Susquehanna Ambulance requested by Great Bend Fire to respond to State Route 171 in the village of Red Rock for a 2
car motor vehicle accident, reported head on collision with confinement.  Susquehanna EMS transported one of the patients to Wilson Hospital with Superior ALS.  

Unfound MVA
2-3-10 @ 15:53 - Susquehanna Fire and EMS respond to dispatch for a possible motor vehicle accident on State Route 92 toward NY state line.  Dispatch stated that the
call came in from Onstar and there wasn't much information available.  Units searched from Oakland Borough to the state line and found nothing.  All units were called
clear by command.

Assist on Possible Structure Fire
2-2-10 @ 14:00 - Susquehanna Fire requested to assist Windsor Fire Department, possible structure fire at a residence on State Line Road.  

Forced Entry
2-1-10 @ 21:25 - Susquehanna Fire and EMS dispatched to assist Susquehanna PD / Pennsylvania State Police on a Welfare Check, Westfall Ave Oakland Borough.  
Upon arrival Susquehanna Fire was no longer needed as crews on scene had already gained entry.  Patient was assessed by Susquehanna EMS and transported to
Barnes Kasson Hospital for further evaluation.

LZ For Critical Patient
2-1-10 @ 07:07 - Susquehanna Fire dispatched to assist Susquehanna EMS - landing zone needed for a critical patient.  SFD responded an Engine and set up landing
zone at Susquehanna Schools for incoming Lifeflight 3.  
Snow Storm MVA
2-25-10 @ 12:46 - Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance dispatched for a 1 car motor vehicle accident on Brushville Road, Oakland Township.  Vehicle was reported to be
off to the side of the road, heavy damage, unknown occupancy.  First officers arriving on scene reported no occupants that the vehicle appeared to be there for quite
some time.  Comm Center also reported that they received a call from another fire dept reporting the vehicle was there throughout the night.  All units were canceled.
Pick-up Truck on it's Side
3-11-10 @ 14:46 - Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance personnel along with Medic301 from Barnes Kasson were dispatched for a 1 car motor vehicle accident on
Brushville Road, Oakland Twp.  A pick up truck was on it's side in a ditch near the East Lake Road.  Vehicle had 3 occupants, all uninjured.  Ambulance crew obtained
patient refusals and fire department personnel remained to secure the scene until towing service and state police arrived.

Possible Structure Fire
3-7-10 @ 17:16 - Susquehanna is tapped out to respond to a possible structure fire on Willow Ave, Susquehanna Borough.  Dispatch states the
caller has a burning smell in the residence but does not see smoke or flame.  Units get on scene and investigate, nothing was found.

Landing Zone Request
3-7-10 @ 7:29 - Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance dispatched to set up a landing zone at Susquehanna Schools for incoming Life flight 3 doing an inter-facility
transport out of Barnes Kasson Hospital.

Structure Fire in Thompson Borough
3-3-10 @ 1:01 - Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance personnel dispatched to assist Thompson Hose Company, reported structure fire on Main Street, Thompson.  First
arriving reporting fully involved house fire, no entrapment.  Susquehanna Engine 1, Engine 2, and Ambulance 2 responded. No one was injured in this fire.  The
residents of the home were assisted by family and the American Red Cross of Susquehanna County.
 

Assist to Thompson - Chimney Fire
3-2-10 @ 22:00 - Susquehanna was dispatched automatic mutual aid to Thompson Hose Company for a reported Chimney Fire - Campsite Road, Thompson Twp.  
Thompson 11 requesting Engine and Tanker out of Susquehanna to respond due to another call in their coverage area.  Susquehanna Engine 1, Engine 2, and
Ambulance 2 responded to the assist.  Fire was put out and all units returned to service.

Electrical Fire tap-out
3-1-10 @ 22:04 - Susquehanna Fire dispatched for a possible electrical fire in an apartment building on Grand Street, Susquehanna Borough.  Engine 3 responded with
the thermal camera to inspect the residence.  Nothing was found.
Brush Fire
4-5-10 @ 15:55 - Susquehanna Fire Department was dispatched for their Brush Truck and RTV to respond to Gelatt Rd, Gibson Twp to assist Thompson Hose
Company on a brush fire.   Units quickly got fire under control and continued in Susquehanna's response at a reduced rate.  Total amount burned was roughly 2 acres.

Landing Zones
Susquehanna Fire and EMS are dispatched when a helicopter transport is needed out of Barnes Kasson Hospital.  The landing zones are set up at the helo pad built by
Susquehanna Fire Department on Susquehanna Community School grounds.  LZ's were set up on 3-22 @ 07:16,  4-2 @ 19:57, 4-4 @ 17:10.

Wires & Trees
4-2-10 @ 16:50 - Susquehanna Fire Department was dispatched to a home on Erie Ave, Susquehanna Borough for a tree down on a residence, tree had pulled down
the power lines.  Susquehanna 13 was the first unit on scene.  He requested all apparatus hold at station, nothing could be done on scene by the fire department.  
Susquehanna 13 remained on scene with the home owner until Penelec arrived on scene.  

New Milford hammered with calls, Susquehanna asked to help out
3-26-10 @ 14:36 - New Milford Fire dispatched to another call within their coverage area, MVA reported possibly 2 industrial trucks involved on SR 492 just into Jackson
Twp.  Susquehanna Rescue was dispatched to respond.  Units on scene reporting it's 1 industrial pick up truck into a pole, no entrapment, minor injuries.  
Susquehanna Rescue was canceled enroute by New Milford command.

Motorcycle Fire
3-25-10 @ 18:18 - Susquehanna Police Department requests for Susquehanna Fire to respond to Prospect Street, Susquehanna Borough for a motorcycle that was on
fire, believes the fire is out.  Susquehanna E-1 and Susquehanna 11 respond.  Units on-scene to find cycle already out.  A quick evaluation done by crew to make sure
everything was fully out and apparatus returned to quarters.

Search for Missing Juveniles     
3-21-10 @ 00:51 Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance dispatched to assist state police and local police in attempting to locate several juveniles believed to be intoxicated
down by the river bed in Oakland Twp.  Susquehanna A-1, RT1, Susquehanna 11, and 12 responded.  2 juveniles were found down by the river and transported to
Barnes-Kasson Hospital for evaluation.  

Public Service Detail
3-20-10 @ 10:24 Susquehanna Engine 2 responds with a crew to Main Street Susquehanna Borough to assist with crews tearing down an old & dilapidated building
near the corner of Main and Erie Ave.  Crews remained on scene for several hours.

Barnes Kasson Fire Alarm
3-19-10 @ 12:43 - Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance dispatched for an automated fire alarm at Barnes Kasson Hospital in Susquehanna Borough.  Within moments of
dispatch, County canceled all units stating that Barnes Kasson was working on their alarms.  

Brush Fire
3-18-10 @ 14:55 - Susquehanna Fire Dept is dispatched for a brush fire on Germantown Rd, Harmony Twp.  Susquehanna 13 first unit on scene reporting small fire,
requesting Susquehanna Engine 1 to respond.  Fire was put out and all units returned to service within 25 minutes.
Brush Fire
4-10-10 @ 19:34 - Susquehanna is dispatched for a brush fire on the Brushville Road just outside of Susquehanna Borough.  Susquehanna 15 first on scene reporting
it to be at the junk yard, the access road locked.  After gaining access, Susquehanna 15 reported that there was an area of about 20x40 burning with garbage and debris
involved.  Fire was quickly extinguished by crews aboard Susquehanna Brush1 and Engine 1.  
Barn Fire

4-20-10 @ 10:23 Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance personnel are dispatched for a fully
involved barn fire on SR 171, Harmony Twp.  Susquehanna 13 acknowledged the call and
requested first box mutual aid bringing in Hallstead, Great Bend, New Milford, and
Thompson, along with Great Bend/Hallstead Ambulance for the assist.  

No one was injured and most of the animals were recovered from the barn by the home
owners.  
Car over the bank
4-21-10 @ 00:39 Susquehanna Fire and Ambulance along with Barnes-Kasson ALS were dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident on Euclid Ave, Susquehanna
Borough.  First unit on scene reported 1 patient entrapped in the vehicle over the wall between Franklin Ave and Euclid Ave (roughly 10 ft).  Rescue truck was the arriving
apparatus and crews worked quickly to stabilize the vehicle.  Patient was promptly removed and turned over to Susquehanna EMS and BK ALS for transport to Wilson
Hospital.  Vehicle was removed from the scene by French's Auto.
MVA between Susquehanna and Forest City
4-23-10 @ 1:25 - Dispatched to a 1 car motor vehicle accident on SR 171, believed to be in Harmony Twp.  Upon arrival on scene, units found vehicle along side of the
road, on all four tires, the tree line.  Driver confined in the vehicle due to damage sustained in what appeared to be a roll over.  Patient was extricated from the vehicle and
transported to Barnes Kasson Hospital by Susquehanna Ambulance for further evaluation.

Standby Water Rescue

4-28-10 @ 18:07 Susquehanna Water Rescue personnel dispatched to stand by at Susquehanna Station for Hallstead Water Rescue while they operate on a rescue off of
Harmony Road, Great Bend Twp.  Station 7 successfully retrieved the victim off the island and returned the individual to shore and turned him over to Great Bend Hallstead
EMS.  Susquehanna Water Rescue personnel were stood down by command & returned to service without deployment.
Vehicle Fire
5-20-10 @ 16:58 -- Susquehanna Fire was dispatched to a lawn mower fire on Spring Creek Ave, Oakland Borough.  Dispatch stated that the fire was spreading to the
woods by the residence.  Fire was quickly extinguished and all units returned to service within a few minutes.

Wind Storm keeps Susquehanna Fire Busy
5-08-10 - Trees and wires down throughout Susquehanna's coverage area kept Susquehanna busy throughout the evening.  State Street, Oakland Borough; Viaduct
Street, Lanesboro; Front Street, Susquehanna Borough; Stevens Point Rd, Harmony Twp.; North Main Street, Lanesboro; Harmony Road, Oakland Twp. were those
reported.  

Brush Fire
4-29-10 @ 19:29 - Susquehanna Fire dispatched for a Brush Fire on Turnpike Street, Oakland Twp.  Susquehanna E-1 and Brush Truck responded.  
Smoke in the Basement
6-5-10 @ 15:02 - Susquehanna Fire and EMS are dispatched for a Structure Fire alarm Oak Hill Road, Oakland Twp.  Report given is residence has a basement full of
smoke.  Units arrived on scene to find the source and quickly took care of the situation.  No one was injured, minimal damage to the residence.

1 Car MVA
6-2-10 @   - Susquehanna Fire and EMS along with Broome ALS were dispatched for a 1 car motor vehicle accident on SR 171 Oakland Twp by the Monument.  Report was
vehicle went off the roadway into a pole, unknown injuries or entrapment.  First arriving crews on scene found a pick up truck into a telephone pole, driver out of the vehicle
stating he was not injured.  The power was out to a couple near by homes due to the accident.  Vehicle was removed from the scene by French's Auto.

Lamp causes Fire
6-2-10 @ 15:28 - Susquehanna Fire Department is dispatched to investigate a residence on Oak Street, Susquehanna Borough.  Report given was a lamp had been
placed on a carpet and the carpet had caught fire.  The home owner believed the fire was out, but wanted the fire department to respond to be sure.  Crews checked the
residence and found no signs of a fire.  

Dumpster Fire
5-29-10 @ 00:30 - Susquehanna Fire, EMS, and Barnes-Kasson ALS dispatched to respond to Residential Care Associates on Broad Ave, Susquehanna Borough for a
dumpster on fire.  Engine 1 quickly responded extinguishing the fire.  EMS was on stand by in case the retirement home and or the near by residences would have to be
evacuated.  No one was injured or removed from their homes.  All units were clear and available by 00:55

Car in the Swamp
5-25-10 @ 21:28 - Susquehanna Rescue was dispatched to assist New Milford Fire & EMS on a 1 car motor vehicle accident on East Lake Road.  The report was that the
vehicle had gone into the swamp, unknown if anyone was inside the vehicle.  Rescue was canceled by New Milford command - no one in or near the vehicle.

Activated Fire Alarm
5-24-10 @ 17:40 dispatched to assist Thompson on activated residential fire alarm on Penn Hill Road, Starrucca Borough.  Response was canceled by resident's alarm
company.
